Latitudes Contemporaines

The international festival «Latitudes Contemporaines» will take place from 5 to 28 June in a dozen different venues in the city and of Lille and surrounding areas up to, and just beyond, the Belgian border.

The festival’s multidisciplinary programme focuses on live performances in which the body is a primary component and covers all artistic genres and formats: dance, theatre, music, performance art and hybrid, trend-setting works. This year’s edition will focus on the theme «New Territories».

Three Swiss productions will be part of this year’s festival:

«Hate» by Laetitia Dosch, 5 & 6 June, 20:00 at Tandem Scène nationale, Douai
The actress Laetitia Dosch performs a duet with a horse. She soliloquizes and converses with the horse, listens and recounts her doubts and her anger, convinced that humans and animals can live in mutual trust. Riding the horse naked, Laetitia Dosch wields her sword and charges full steam ahead in an epic, utopian quest.

«Happy Island» by La Ribot & Dançando com a Diferença, 12 June, 20:00 & 13 June, 18:00 at Maison Folie Wazemmes, Lille
Born from the encounter between La Ribot and the inclusive dance company Dançando com a Diferença, on the island of Madeira, this work is an ode to imagination, effervescence and all forms of existence. A production which mixes choreography and film, and talks about desire, utilizing all the strength and extraordinary beauty of the human body (s. main picture).

«Conférence de choses» by François Gremaud / 2b company
These five lectures are an invitation to a playful journey through encyclopedic knowledge. Pierre Mifsud gets on stage, greets the audience and keeps talking until a timer stops him between 45 minutes and eight hours later. In the meantime he follows a bold chain of associations from bison to Queen Margot, from Descartes to Haribo sweet gums, from Joseph Smith to Marcel Duchamp.
