Melbourne: Swiss Focus in November

From the black box to the white cube, from public parks to rock concerts and cinemascapes, the swiss.style selection brings to Melbourne sophisticated, thought-provoking dance artists from Switzerland.

The Swiss focus presented by Dancehouse Melbourne and Pro Helvetia from 1 to 10 November 2019 proposes a selection of «danses d’auteur». The artists are all innovators in the art of gesture, modulating the spectacular in order to enunciate a different stylistic relationship with movement – staging a return to the almost elementary, the minimal, the supremely simple. At the same time, the works challenge complex notions of identity, shared heritage, tradition and the desire to demarcate, possess, tame or exploit the environment and the self.
Grouped together, they point to the specificity of place manifested in a unique swiss.style.

Cie Greffe / Cindy Van Acker: «Solos», 1 – 3 November at 8pm
An evening of solo excerpts by one of the most experimental and iconic Swiss choreographers.

Rudi van der Merwe: «Trophée», 2 – 3 November at 6pm
A site-specific performance on the themes of hunting, conquest and military tradition.

Perrine Valli & The Sunfast: «Sun Trip», 8 – 9 November at 8:30pm
A danced rock concert.

József Trefeli & Gábor Varga: «Jinx 103», 9 – 10 November at 2pm
A breathtakingly energetic dance of high kicks, clapping, slapping and lightning-quick footwork.

Victoria Chiu, Rudi van der Merwe, József Trefeli: «Genetrix», 8 – 9 November at 6pm
Three solo performances explore three diverse bodies and their inaccessible histories.

In addition to these performances on show, there will be several supporting events aimed at both the public and professional artists.
