New York, New York

New York is completely focused on the performing arts in January. During the  Performing Arts Fair APAP and the International Congress ISPA, several independent festivals take place and Swiss creativity will also be represented.

Zurich-based choreographer Simone Aughterlony will be presenting «Everything Fits in the Room» at the American Realness Festival from January 12-15, her collaboration with Jen Rosenblit. Inside this room, meetings in a dungeon-like interior and normal domestic activity result in caution, danger and amnesia. A free-standing wall, a roaming kitchen island and decaying bodies are part of a disruptive ecology that needs constant adjustment. Rhythmic sorcery drives the effort despite the ungovernability of ingredients. Is this a construction site or a cookery demonstration? The room offers an expanded horizon, no longer obliged to rid oneself of the things that supposedly suspend progress. With local guest performer Niall Noel Jones.

The Genevan Ioannis Mandafounis will present his successful production «One One One» at the Panoply Performance Laboratory on January 13, where one dancer will dance for one spectator, with the rest of the audience watching from outside. In the simple staging of two parallel lines on the floor and two chairs, one on each line, the artists will give the audience unexpected experiences. The artists translate emotions from the public and transform them, sending them back in the language of dance.
