Summer Highlights in Switzerland

What would you say to a summer offering Swiss artistic events besides from a swim in the lake? From Zurich to Geneva via Nyon, here is our selection of three summer festivals dedicated partly or wholly to the performing arts.

In a superb setting on Lake Zurich, the Zürcher Theater Spektakel will take place from 16 August to 2 September. With invitations to productions from around the world, including those of the Syrian director Mohammad al Attar and the Cameroon performer Zora Snake, the festival also features several Swiss créations. «Hocus Pocus » from Cie Philippe Saire and Martin Zimmermann‘s «Eins Zwei Drei» (for audiences from 10 years old) will delight Young and old alike. Also on the programme of this year’s festival, «Everything Fits in the Room» by Simone Aughterlony & Jen Rosenblit, as well as «Hate Me, Tender» by Teresa Vittucci.

On the shore of Lake Geneva, the far ° festival des arts vivants  will be held from 17 to 25 August in the charming little town of Nyon. With «Palimpsest» the choreographer the Compagnie Nicole Seiler proposes a walk punctuated by geolocalized sound pieces. Born from a far° meeting in 2017 between the Chilean collective Mil M2 and the Swiss Adina Secretan, «Hoy por Hoy» focuses on the idea of independence. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to discover the productions of three young creators – Miriam Coretta Schulte, Romain Daroles and Tran Tran – as part of «Extra Time», a festival programme designed to support up-and-coming artists.

La Bâtie-Festival de Genève will close the summer season with two weeks of multidisciplinary programmes from 30 August to 16 September. Laetitia Dosch will present «Hate» and « Laetitia fait péter Genève» staged with Anne Steffens. «Happy Island» is the result of a collaboration between the choreographer La Ribot and the Portuguese inclusive dance company Dançando com a Diferença. After an international tour François Gremaud (2b Company) returns to French-speaking Switzerland with «Conférence de choses».

Other Swiss performing artists to be seen at La Bâtie include Simone Aughterlony & Jens Rosenblit,  Martin Schick & Mirko Winkel, Laurence Yadi & Nicolas Cantillon (Cie 7273), Aurélien Patouillard & Marion Duval, Justine Ruchat and Barbara Schlittler.
