Swiss Theatre Awards 2017

The Swiss Federal Office of Culture has presented this year’s Theatre Awards: The Swiss Grand Prix Theater/Hans-Reinhart-Ring 2017 has gone to the actress Ursina Lardi from Grisons. Federal Councilor Alain Berset gave her Switzerland’s highest theatre prize on 24th May at the LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura centre.

This year, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture also honoured the Grande Dame of Puppet Theatre Margrit Gysin, the actress and director Marielle Pinsard and the author and director Valérie Poirier, the music theatre producers Dominik Flaschka & Roman Riklin, the Ticino artist duo Trickster-p and the cabaret duo schön&gut.

Ursina Lardi was born in Samedan in 1970, grew up in Poschiavo and lives in Berlin. She is one of the most versatile and highly-regarded actresses in the German-speaking world and beyond. She has worked with renowned theatre directors such as Romeo Castellucci, Einar Schleef, Thorsten Lensing, Katie Mitchell and Milo Rau.
Since 2012 she has been a permanent ensemble member of the Berliner Schaubühne under the artistic direction of Thomas Ostermeier. In addition, she has worked in numerous films, under such distinguished directors as Michael Haneke and Petra Volpe. In 2014 she won the Swiss Film Prize as best actress.

The Swiss Grand Prix Theater/Hans-Reinhart-Ring has been awarded by the Federal Office of Culture since 2014. In its first year, it paid tribute to the director Omar Porras, based in Geneva; in 2015 Stefan Kaegi, Swiss member of the German-Swiss theatre collective Rimini Protokoll, received the award; last year, the prize went to Theater Hora from Zurich.
